What we clean and restore

Elite Jetwashing Services cleans and restores every type of decking across Bolton and the North West:

  • Softwood and hardwood timber decking
  • Composite and WPC boards
  • Green, algae-covered and slippery decks
  • Grey, sun-faded and weathered timber
  • Decking with flaking, worn-out oil or stain

Whether your boards have gone green and slippery or grey and weathered, we clean them, clear out the grooves and leave them ready to re-oil.

How we do it

  1. Assessment. We check whether the decking is timber or composite, how sound the boards are, and how much algae, moss and old coating there is, then pick the safest method.
  2. Clear the deck. Furniture, planters and loose debris moved aside, and leaves and dirt swept out of the board gaps.
  3. Pre-treat. A professional solution is worked into the green algae, moss and grey weathering to break it down before washing.
  4. Clean the boards. Soft washing on delicate or composite decking, controlled pressure washing on solid timber. Either way it’s kept moving and at the right distance so the grain isn’t torn up.
  5. Clean the grooves. The gaps and grooves between boards are where moss, algae and dirt collect and where slippery films start. We clear them out, not just the flat surface.
  6. Ready to re-oil. The deck is left clean and even, grooves clear, ready for oiling once it’s fully dried. We can handle the re-oiling for you if you’d like.

Why it matters

A green deck is an eyesore, but the bigger problem is that the algae film is genuinely slippery. A wet timber deck coated in it is one of the easiest places in a garden to lose your footing. Left alone, moss and algae also hold moisture against the boards, which speeds up rot in timber and lets grime work its way into the grooves.

Grey, weathered timber is a different problem: the surface has oxidised and any old oil has flaked away, so the wood is left exposed and soaking up rain. Blasting it with a jet wash on full power isn’t the fix either: too much pressure furs up soft timber and leaves it rougher than before. That’s why we match the method to the boards, leaning on soft washing where the timber is delicate and using controlled pressure where it can take it.

A proper clean makes the deck safe to walk on again, clears out the grooves so water drains, and opens the timber back up ready to take oil, which is what actually protects it and brings the colour back.

Decking cleaning FAQ

The questions we get asked most about decking cleaning in Bolton and Greater Manchester.

How much does decking cleaning cost in Bolton?

There's no fixed price. The cost depends on the size of the deck, whether it's timber or composite, how green or weathered the boards are, and whether you want it re-oiling afterwards. That's why we quote every job individually. Send a photo of your decking and we'll come back with a rough estimate, then confirm a fixed price in writing at a free visit. Do you do decking cleaning near me?

We're a Bolton-based team (BL1) covering the BL postcodes and the wider North West. If you're searching for decking cleaning or jet washing near you, send us your postcode and we'll confirm we cover your area and book in a free quote.

Do you re-oil the decking after cleaning it?

We can, and it's worth doing. Cleaning strips off the old, flaking oil and opens the grain back up, so re-oiling once the timber has fully dried gives the best colour and the longest-lasting protection. Just let us know when you get in touch and we'll include re-oiling in your quote, or we can leave it clean and dry for you to oil yourself.

Is your cleaning safe for composite decking?

Yes. Composite boards don't need the same treatment as timber, and they shouldn't get it. We soft wash composite decking with a low-pressure clean and a surface-safe solution to lift algae and grime without scarring the finish or forcing water into the board joints. We check what your deck is made of before we start and match the method to it.

How do you stop the decking going slippery and green again?

The green film is algae, and it's what makes boards slippery. A thorough clean lifts the algae, moss and mould off the boards and out of the grooves rather than just skimming the surface, so it takes longer to come back. Keeping the deck clear of leaves and standing water helps too, and a coat of oil on timber slows regrowth further.

Will jet washing damage my timber decking?

It can, if it's done wrong. Too much pressure on soft timber lifts the grain, furs up the surface and gouges the boards. We use controlled pressure at the right distance and lead with soft washing where the boards are delicate, so the deck comes up clean without being chewed up. We're fully insured throughout.

Can you get the green algae out of the grooves between the boards?

Yes. The grooves and board gaps are where moss, algae and trapped dirt build up the most, and where slippery films start. We clean the grooves out as part of the job, not just the flat surface, so the whole deck is cleared and the gaps drain properly again.
